Gold Crown
Gold crowns are all metal, gold colored (think jewelry gold) and are used in areas that are less visible in the mouth. They are used for patients that feel that gold metal color is not a deterrent for them using a particular treatment. Gold crowns are also used in areas with a limited amount of vertical space (between the crowned tooth and the opposing tooth the gold tooth bites against). At a given thickness, gold is more tolerant of biting pressure. When the crown has to be thinner in order to fit a patients bite, gold may be the best alternative. Porcelain requires greater thickness in order to be resistant to fracturing or breaking.
